Election Requirements
Qualifications:
- Candidate must be a citizen of the United States
- Registered voter
- Resident of Hughson
- Be at least 18 years of age
Elections are in November of even numbers years. Candidate packets are available approximately four (4) months prior to the election (call 883-4055 in June for the exact date)
Candidate packets will including, but are not limited to, the following information and forms to file:
- Nomination papers (need at least 20 signatures of persons nominating you to run for office.
- Candidates Statement for Voter Pamphlet (optional). A deposit is required at time of filing.
- Statement of Economic Interest From
- Campaign Reports on monies collected and spent will be filed at regular intervals during the campaign
Election Date:
Regular municipal elections are held on the first Tuesday in November of even numbered years.
General Information:
Hughson is a Council-Manager form of government. Voters elect the City Council to serve as the policy-making board of the City. The Council, in turn, appoints the City Manager to administer these policies.
The Hughson City Council has five members, including the Mayor, elected at-large on a nonpartisan basis for a two-year term. The remaining City Council members are elected for a four year term with at least two seats expiring each election year. The City Council sits as the legislative body, enacting ordinances, orders and resolutions necessary for governing Hughson.
In addition to their representation of the citizens of Hughson and their vote at City Council meetings, Council Members are appointed to various sub-committees and given other assignments by the Mayor during their terms in office.
The Hughson City Council holds regular meeting at 7:00 PM on the second and forth Mondays of each month. Special meetings may be called by the Mayor or a majority of the Council Members.
Council Members receive a stipend of $250 per month, with the Mayor receiving $300 per month. Council Members are also reimbursed for expenses.
