Wastewater Treatment Plant
NEW PHONE NUMBERS BUILDING DEPARTMENT 883-0811 & 883-0646
Welcome to the City of Hughson's Water Quality Control Plant. Our purpose is to change incoming wastewater into clean water suitable to be released back into the earth. This treatment facility features Primary Sedimentation, Activated Sludge, and Bio-solids reuse. The Wastewater Treatment Division plays a critical role in enhancing community life. This division's mission is to protect the health and safety of the community by treating waste-water flows from residential, commercial, and industrial customers.
We also help to educate the community.
Some local junior high school students and staff enjoy a comprehensive and interesting explanation of how the treatment plant processes wastewater. This photo was taken in our "Headworks" building where inorganic substances such as grit and plastic are isolated and disposed of. The remaining water that continues into the plant contains food for the beneficial bacteria and organisms that already inhabit the facility. Ultimately the wastewater is returned to safe quality and released back into the earth.

We encourage and support wildlife restoration projects such as the CSUS Wood Duck program.
Pictured here are some Stanislaus State University undergraduates engaging in a water foul research project as part of their course work. The treatment plant is home to a variety of wildlife that take advantage of our sanctuary.
